I immediately asked the factory if they conducted any material sampling before warehousing, and their answer was no. Production:

  • Battery cell grading is a crucial process in assembling battery packs, as they perform better when the individual cells have similar performance characteristics.
  • Observe whether there are work instructions displayed on the production line and whether the workers follow these instructions for the installation process. For example, the work instructions may specify the torque required for the screws when installing the BMS (Battery Management System).
  • Visit the aging room to assess the power of the aging equipment and the number of individual aging sessions. This is a capacity bottleneck. Regardless of the number of workers on the production line and the daily production of battery packs, delivery time can be affected by the aging process. The aging equipment can provide insights into the factory’s capacity.

One particularly memorable capacity issue occurred four years ago when a customer visited our factory line. The customer called me while I was at the exhibition, and the conversation left a lasting impression:

Customer: Do you know how many XX models they can produce in a day? Me: When the materials are ready, they can produce 500 sets per day. Customer: Do you know how many finished products they have made today? Only 120 sets. I observed the production line today and noticed XX sets of defective or returned products in the line. The average installation time for the XX process is XXX minutes. Considering the time required for line changeovers and material changes, they can produce a maximum of 300 sets at night during overtime.
